When We Are Trapped by Ourselves

19 Aug 2024

I have recently encountered an elderly. He’s declined all kinds of assistance despite his increasingly difficulty in mobility. Gradually, he’s stucked - socially and functionally.

Indeed everyone including myself, has unconsciously developed an automatic way of thinking and responses in life.

At times, these automations help us to filter the "unwanted" in life; help us to choose and to respond in life; and to strengthen our life values and philosophies.

At times however, these automations turn us into super stubborn folk. Sometimes they even set us apart from our original intentions and life values.

Psychologically speaking, these situations are very common. If you wish to try another way to respond to life challenges, some interesting twists can be considered:

  1. Aware a bit more : gently and without criticism, make room to understand and to aware a bit more of yourself. “I see - this is the way how I think and respond - my automations!"
  2. Reflect a bit more : whenever there’re life challenges, make room to reflect your original intentions and life values !
  3. Willing to learn a bit more : make room to embrace willingness - an attitude and willingness to learn how to flexibly think and respond whilst upholding our original intentions and life values !
